In preparation of the 2015/16 season, four players that played an instrumental role that saw Vipers SC lift the Azam Uganda Premier League have renewed their contracts bringing an end to speculation that they would leave the club. Musa Malunda, Ismael Watenga, Patrick Sembuya and Deus Bukenya have all signed three year contracts with the club despite attracting interest from local clubs.
“As a norm, we carried out post season review and evaluation of team following the successful 2014/15, owing to their outstanding performance and attitude, it is very clear the four players are still an integral part of the club. We are glad that they gave us first priority and committed their future to the club”, said Tadeus Kitandwe the club chairman.
Four Key Players
it was imperative that the club maintains and improves the team by first retaining its key players as well as strengthening it by recruiting quality players
Defender Musa Malunda had an impressive season with Vipers SC, he formed a formidable partnership with teammates Yusuf Mukisa, Nico Wadada and Dan Birikwalira that saw the team concede only 18 goals, the least number of goals conceded by a team in the 2014/15 league. Ismael Watenga’s season was hampered with an injury towards the end of the campaign and was replaced by Alitho James for the remaining games but he had been the first choice goal keeper. Deus Bukenya and Patrick Sembuya were aces in the centre of the park, the pair effectively neutralized the opponents’ attack and provided a defensive shield to the team’s backline.
As the club gears up for the forthcoming season with an uphill task to defend the league title and compete favorably in the CAF Champions League as well as Uganda Cup and CECAFA Club Championship, it was imperative that the club maintains and improves the team by first retaining its key players as well as strengthening it by recruiting quality players. The renewal of contracts for Malunda, Watenga, Sembuya and Bukenya comes at a time when five new signings in Erisa Sekisambu, John Semazzi, Shafiq Bakaki, Brian Nkuubi and Duncan Ezekel Seninde have already been added to the team which is proof that the club is keen on delivering its commitment.
