Vipers will be focused on challenging for top honors but the most important thing for youthful defender Benjamin Nyakoojo is he will be looking forward to making his debut in the 2017/18 Azam Uganda premier league.
Nyakoojo has revealed he cannot wait to make his first league appearance for the Venoms and feels confident he has what it takes to challenge for a spot on the first team.
‘I know I dreamed of playing in the top flight for Vipers. There was nothing more I wanted in my football career. Unfortunately, my dream never came true at the start of the year until last month when the head coach, Miguel Da Costa made me part of the squad he intends to use next season,‘ said the defender.
He is living a dream right now. The youngster was included in Vipers squad for the first time after Halid Lwaliwa was ruled out for months following a knee injury — Benjamin Nyakoojo is ready to make his Uganda premier league debut.
It isn’t a big concern for him that more experienced defenders like Musa Malunda, Shafik Bakaki and the impressive Geoffrey Wasswa may be preferred choices. He however believes he can give them a run for their money.
‘The best part is — we get to be there every step of the way.who knows I could become the next Lwaliwa of the team?’ he added.
Vipers suffered a huge blow in defense following the injury of their dependable center back Lwaliwa and will miss the first month of the league hence Nyakoojo eyes this as an opportunity to make an impact for his team.
The defender spent half of last season on loan playing for Fufa Big league side Entebbe Young FC where he played four games.
The former Entebbe Young loanee possess a good height and his aerial presence is good.
Nyakoojo is not the only young player in the Venoms squad lined up for the forthcoming football season,Steven Mukwala who was signed from Edgars football academy,Buden Mujahid ,Frank Tumwesigye and Ashraf Bamuturaki are also promising players in Jorge Miguel Da Costa’s side.
